For squirrels and other rodents, set up an owl box. Having a friendly raptor settle there will liven up the neighbourhood and put the pests in their place. And once there's a couple, and then owlets, they'll gorge on squirrel meat like there's no tomorrow.

My daughter worked on our community farm all summer. Weeding, planting, harvesting, etc. She loved it and I sense she has a newfound appreciation for agriculture. She already has disdain for customers at the farm stand that ask for produce that's not in season.
And right now, I am planting bulbs of shallots & garlic to come up in the Spring (and just got 40 ginseng rootlets I am going to plant under a maple tree nearby).
One could also plant spring flower bulbs about now- Gives me a reason to live through the winter, regardless of the human based crapstorm...
Squirrels are very OCD. Note where they come from, & put tiny bits of widely-scattered food in their path.
If even ONE sunflower seed is anywhere near their path, they HAVE_TO find it. ;P Doesn't matter what bonanza is beyond it, they have to stop. Their sense of smell & sight don't seem to be overly good, but they do have a nose for sunflowers.
Trap and eat the squirrels.
Taste like chic...er.....turkey. ;)

It's been said a few different ways, but growing your own food is one of the greatest revolutionary acts.
Also, I bet you can keep that kale going at least another month. Especially these days.
Squirrels and rodents don't like 2 or more cats.
