I’m working on the introduction to The Soviet Jew, which I hope I’ll be sending out next week or so. In the meantime, I’d like to reprint an essay my friend Joe Costello just wrote about the grip that technologies — and especially technologies that require immense amount of energy to operate, which is basically all the technologies we use right now — have on our society. It’s a great essay, and I pretty much agree with all of it.
> Which gets to the heart of the problem of democracy in America today, Americans are immensely ignorant and misinformed of almost every aspect of how the world operates.
In fairness to us, the same can be said about the majority of Western countries.
Thanks, Yasha. Please tell Joe that he needs to get his own Substack; I'd subscribe in a heartbeat.
Joe does have his own substack now. https://joecostello.substack.com/
Joe's other essay that you linked (https://yasha.substack.com/p/joe-costello-on-democratic-politics) expresses precisely the thought what I struggled to formulate after I read this piece:
> Which gets to the heart of the problem of democracy in America today, Americans are immensely ignorant and misinformed of almost every aspect of how the world operates.
In fairness to us, the same can be said about the majority of Western countries.
