Evgenia and I talked about The eXile and Matt Taibbi on our Red Scare ep — about how the Red Scare girls took a very similar path as Matt, starting out avant-garde and eventually transforming into MAGA-Musk reply gals.
Its funny watching how successful the culture wars were/are. Grown ass men like joe rogan believing that portable toilets in schools to hide from school shooters are some liberal agenda of allowing kids to identify as cats or some other bullshit. Matt taibbi is another one. Complete and utter sacks of shit earning a lot of cash.
Personally I've always seen a parallel between Red Scare with the UK's RCP (Not the new one)/Living Marxism crew who went on to become the people behind Spiked. When they were pretending to be Trotskyists they were infamous for their contrarian right wing takes. Eventually they cut the bullshit and became openly right wing, and one of them ended up in No. 10 as an adviser to Boris Johnson.
it's possible to browse stuff through archive.org but it's incredibly tedious and varies with the snapsnots. if i was a trust fund baby i'd have compiled all of it into a folder, but i think there is someone on the RWN group that did actually compile all of Dolan's articles at least.
Well reading through these posts was a stroll down memory lane. Some of the commenters I remember well from the Taibbi substack community. I don't know shit, but I always felt like MT was kinda scooping Aaron's work on Russiagate.
I quit his paid content in 2020, it was just too old-man hand wringing and Kirn coming on just really brought it out more. I couldn't get that excited about "Twitter Files" (it was sort of interesting but all so unsurprising - I guess I don't consider private sites like Twitter a public square, the internet is the public square) and it predictably turned out Moron Musk didn't really give a fuck about free speech. Matt kinda got conned with that, but at least stayed with Substack. I'm still free subbed and the content has seemed to continue down the road of trite "free speech" schlock for right-wingers, IDW fanbois and wankers who just want to shit on everything left of Ron Johnson. Sort of like Greenwald, but at least Glen can still really nail a topic occasionally and get his chud audience tilted to fuck (eg Palestine). Too bad - I'll always remember Matt's work on the financial crisis, the only one outside of technical financial blog content like what was aggregated at sites like Zerohedge who was painting the reality of things. Jon Stewart eventually got there, but for a long time it was just Matt.
Matt christman made a good point about the whole pivot from bernie to trump. He reckons its more a function of their being no class critique in the media. Anywhere. I guess he’s saying its ignorance ? Or lack of class solidarity ? I mean, where is there for people to go exactly ! Thats not an excuse for supporting trump at all but it is an interesting phenomenon.

at this point just regurgitate everything from the nsfwcorp/pando years because it's all become relevant
and the site is down

Listening at 1.2x is entertaining 😂👍🏻
I knew who Taibbi was when he did such a lousy job debating David Ray Griffin.
thanks for reminding me of that. yeah…
