Crawling with Lenin in Zurich
We drove all the way to Jersey to catch the retrospective of two Soviet-American artists — Komar and Melamid — at the Zimmerli Museum. We were rather depressed by it. It wasn’t because of the art itself. Some of it was great. It had more to do with the way in which the art was implicitly exhibited: as curios and totems from a conquered culture.
